STATEMENT

This piece is custom made for design students when working in the studio. Using custom fitted pockets, the composition conveniently stores all of the tools found in a design kit. The piece fits as a shirt, with pockets on the front for easy access to materials. The most commonly used tools are placed at the top, allowing room for heavier and lesser used items towards the bottom hem of the garment. Exploring themes of sustainability, the shirt and pockets are made from recycled textiles. Using an old shirt as a bag also represents sustainability. The composition explores the duality of how we are very materialistic, literally attaching objects to our person because we carry them so often. Folding inside out, the piece transforms into a tote bag, both adding functionality and continuing to express the materialistic duality. The item is perfectly made for designers, allowing them to quickly access tools in the studio. As soon as they are finished, they can quickly transform the piece to leave the studio with their items.
